JEE Main & Advanced Sample Paper JEE Main - Mock Test - 42

  • question_answer
Two solids X and Y dissociate into gaseous product at a certain temperature as follows:
    (i) \[X(s)A(g)+C(g)\] and
    (ii)  \[Y(s)B(g)+C(g)\]
At a given temperature, pressure over excess solid 'X? is \[40\text{ }mm\]of \[Hg\]and total pressure over solid \['Y(s)'\] is \[60\text{ }mm\]of\[Hg\]. Ratio of \[{{K}_{P}}\] for reaction (i) to that of reaction (ii) is

    A) \[9:4\]

    B)                    \[2:3\]

    C) \[4:9\]

    D)        \[2:1\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    [c] \[X(s)\underset{20\,mm}{\mathop{A(g)}}\,+\underset{30\,mm}{\mathop{C(g)}}\,;\] \[{{K}_{P1}}=20\times 20=400\,\,m{{m}^{2}}\] and \[Y(S)\underset{30\,\,mm}{\mathop{B(g)}}\,+\underset{30\,\,mm}{\mathop{C(g);}}\,\] \[{{K}_{P2}}=30\times 30=900\,m{{m}^{2}}\] \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\frac{{{K}_{P1}}}{{{K}_{P2}}}=\frac{4}{9}\] Hence, (3) is the CORRECT answer.
