Directions: Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below: Ten chocolates are distributed among four people A, B, C and D such that one of them gets one chocolate, another gets two chocolates, the third gets three chocolates and the fourth gets four chocolates. It is known that B gets more chocolates than A, and D gets fewer chocolates than C.
If B gets fewer chocolates than C, then which of the following is not necessarily true?

    A)  A and C together get at least five chocolates.

    B)  B and D together get at least four chocolates.

    C)  A and B together get at least four chocolates.

    D)  C and D together get at least five chocolates.

    E)  None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    According to the question B > A ?(i) D < C ?(ii) B getting fewer chocolates than C, could mean one of the following cases: Case 1: C = 4 and B = 3 then (a) D = 2 and A = 1 or, (b) D = 1 and A = 2 Case 2: C = 4 and B = 2 then D = 3 and A =1. In each of the above cases, the statements in options (a), (b) and (d) are necessarily true. The statement only in option (c) is not necessarily true.
