    2. Tamaraw and Giant eland are not considered as herbivores,
    3. Herbivores principally eat autotrophs.
Which of the statement(s) given above is/are correct?

    A)  1 and 2

    B)  1 and 3

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] Tamaraw and Giant eland are herbivores. Herbivory is a form of consumption in which an organism principally eats   autotrophs   such   as   plants,   algae and a photosynthesising bacteria. More generally, organisms that feed on autotrophs in general are known as primary consumers. Herbivory usually refers to animals eating plants; fungi, bacteria and protists that feed on living plants are usually -ermed plant pathogens (plant diseases) and microbes -hat feed on dead plants are saprotrophs. Herbivores form an important link in the food chain, because they consume plants in order to ingest the carbohydrates produced by a slant with the help of photosynthesis. Carnivores in turn consume herbivores for the same reason, while omnivores can obtain their nutrients from either plants or animals. Due to a herbivore's ability to survive solely on tough and fibrous plant matter, they are -ermed the primary consumers in the food cycle (chain). -erbivory, carnivory and omnivory can be regarded as special cases of consumer resource systems,
