    Solution :

    Let the be \[x\] pencils and y pens, then \[x+y=40\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[4x+4y=160\] \[(x+5)=4\,(y-5)\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x-4y=-25\] \[\therefore \] \[4x+4y=160\] \[x-4y=-25\] \[5x=135\] \[\therefore \] \[x=27\] and \[y=13\]
