    Differences between mutualism and commensalism are as follows
    Mutualism Commensalism
    The relationship is beneficial for both the species. This relationship is beneficial for only one species while, the other is neither benefitted nor harmed.
    Contact between the two organisms is obligatory, e.g. lichens. Contact between commensal and its benefactor may be periodic or continuous, e.g. sucker fish and shark.
