    Gametogenesis is the process by which haploid gametes are formed in male and female gonads. Given below is a flowchart showing the control of hormones on the process of gametogenesis. Observe it carefully and answer the questions that follow.
    (i) Identify X and Y in the flowchart. Which process is shown under the hormonal control?
    (ii) Explain the function of different hormones shown above.

    Answer:

    (i) In the flowchart, X - ovary and Y - uterus. Given flowchart represents the hormonal control of oogenesis, i.e. the process of formation of female gametes.
    (ii) The functions of different hormones are as follows
    · GnRH - Stimulates anterior lobe of pituitary to secrete LH and FSH.
    · FSH - Stimulates growth of ovarian follicles and development of egg.
    · LH - Stimulates the corpus luteum to secrete progesterone.
