Animal husbandry plays a very important role in human welfare. It can be elaborated in following points

· It evolves new techniques and technologies for the management of livestock like buffaloes, cows, pigs, horses, cattle, sheep, camels, goats, etc., that are useful to humans.

· These methods can also be applied for rearing of animals like bees, silkworm, prawns, crabs, fishes, birds, pigs, cattle, sheep, camels and for their products like milk, eggs, meat, wool, silk, honey, etc.

· It helps in improvement and development of desirable qualities in various animals.

(i) Sports person often fall victim to cocaine addiction because

(a) It increases energy level in the body.

(b) It stimulates aggression and secretion of adrenaline.

(c) It increases the atheletic performance.

(ii) Opioids are the drugs that bind to specific opioid receptors present in CNS and gastrointestinal tract.

These have narcotic, analgesic, astringent and sedative effects.

They slow down respiratory activity, cause constriction of pupil of eye, impair digestion, produce nausea, vomiting and sterility.

Some types of opioids are

(a) Morphine, extracted from latex of Papaver somniferum. It has a sedative effect.

(b) Heroin is a white crystalline, odorless and bitter substance. It is obtained by acetylation of morphine.
