The four year old Pierre lived in a remote village near Paris. He was an orphan. So, his aunt took up the responsibility to look him after. However, his aunt was not a kind lady and made Pierre toil day in and out for his daily bread. So, Pierre was sad. He did not even get time to run around the glades. But he had a friend whom he called 'Baleine'. It was an extraordinary whale with two- golden balls fixed as eyes and power of speech. Whenever he was desolate he went to Baleine and chatted with her. Both of them liked each other immensely. One day his aunt turned him out of the house and said he would be let in only on condition that he brings Baleine's eyes. Pierre was speechless. He went to Baleine and told with tears in his eyes that he requires her eyes. Baleine readily offered him but asked him to bring it back. On returning home, his aunt sold the two balls to the king along with Pierre. After a week fed-up with the restrictions imposed by the king, the boy ran to meet Baleine. On realizing that Pierre has come, Baleine rushed near the shore and tearfully begged her eyes back. Pierre rushed back to the palace and stole the balls at night. Many soldiers chased him. On reaching the shore he called out at the top of his voice 'Baleine!!!' and there she was to take him to the kingdom of water where they happily played together ever after. |
