Why longitudinal waves cannot be polarised?

    Answer:

In polarisation, vibrations perpendicular to the direction of propagation are restricted to just one direction. This is possible in transverse waves which have such vibrations. In longitudinal waves, vibrations occur along the direction of propagation. So their polarisation is not possible.
