How do longitudinal and latitudinal locations influence the duration of the day and night and the time along the Standard Meridian of India?

    Answer:

Latitudinal locations influence the duration of the day and night.
    (a) The sun's rays are always vertical at the equator and therefore duration of day and night is always of 12 hours each. The difference in the duration of day and night also increases from south to north. It is about 45 minutes at Kanyakumari and over 4 hours in the extreme north of Kashmir (due to the slanting rays of the sun).
    (b) Longitudinal locations influence time because longitudinal extent of India is \[30{}^\circ \]. For every 150 of longitudinal difference, there is corresponding time difference of I hour. As a result of this variation, Arunachal Pradesh \[(97{}^\circ 25'E)\]is nearly 2 hours ahead of Gujarat \[(68{}^\circ TE)\]in local time. In order to avoid this difference of 2 hours, \[82{}^\circ 30'\]East longitude has been selected as the Prime Meridian for Indian Standard Time.
