Consider the following statements. Both the latitudinal and longitudinal extent of the main land of India is slightly more than \[29{}^\circ \] There is difference of about 2 hours in the local time of Walong and Dayapur Which of the above statements is/are correct?

    A) 1 only

    B) 2 only

    C) Both 1 and 2

    D) Neither 1 nor 2

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The main land of India extends from\[8{}^\circ 4'\text{ }N\text{ }to\text{ }37{}^\circ 6'\text{ }N\text{ }and\text{ }66{}^\circ 77\text{ }E\text{ }to\text{ }97{}^\circ 25'\text{ }E\]. Thus the latitudinal and the longtitutional extent of India are \[29{}^\circ 1'\] and \[29{}^\circ 18'\] which are slightly more than\[29{}^\circ \]. Wa long in Arunachal Pradesh has longitude of almost \[97{}^\circ E\] and Dayapur in Gujarat is located at a longitude of about\[68{}^\circ 1'E\]. Thus the difference of longitude between the two given places is\ [29{}^\circ \]. The earth moves around its axis through \[360{}^\circ \]in 24 hours. Therefore, a difference of \[1{}^\circ \]longitude makes a difference of 4 minutes in time. Thus the difference of local time between the two stations will be \[29\times 4=116\] minutes or 1 hour 56 minutes which is near equal to 2 hours. Therefore both the, statements are correct.
