    Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was formed in 1984 under the leadership of Kanshi Ram. It is the youngest among the national parties and is an example of Dalit resurgence.
    This party has its origin in All India Backward [SM. ST, OBC] and Minorities Communities EmployeesFederation founded in 1978 by Kanshi Ram. In 1981 he launched another organisation called the DS 4, i.e.,the Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangharsh Samiti and in 1984 finally the BSP was launched. Bahujan Samaj Party draws inspiration from the ideas and teachinqs of Sahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule,Periyar, Ramaswami Naicker and Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
    Aims, Principles and Goals:
    Bahujan Samaj Party seeks to represent and secure power for the Bahujan Samaj which includes dalits,adivasis, OBCs and religious minorities.
    - It stands for the cause of securing the interests and welfare of dalits and oppressed people.
    - Bahujan Samaj Party has its main base in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Punjab.
    Present Status: Formed government in Uttar Pradesh several times by taking the support of different parties at different times. In the Lok Sabha elections held in 2004, it polled about 5 per cent and secured 19 seats.
