    Three major divisions of the Himalays from north to south are:
    (a) Himadri: It is the most continuous division consisting of the loftiest peaks with an average height of 6,000 metres. It contains all the prominent Himalayan peaks. It is always snow-bound.
    (b) The division lying south of the 'Himadri' is known as Himachal, altitude varies between 3,700 and 4,700 metres. The range consists of the famous valley of Kashmir, Kullu, Kangna etc. It is also known for hill stations.
    (c) The southernmost range is Shiwaliks. It has varying altitude between 900 to 1,100 metres. This range is composed of unconsolidated sediments brought down by rivers.
