Are the Himalayas. A mighty impenetrable barrier? Give reasons for your answer.

    Answer:

The Himalayas are not completely impenetrable:
    (a) The trans-himalayan rivers, Brahmaputra, Indus and Satluj originate beyond the Himalayas. These rivers have cut through the Himalayas at different points before entering into the northern plains. These rivers while cutting across the Himalayas have made huge gorges and canyons.
    (b) The Himalayas also have impOr1ant passes like the Khyber pass which was responsible for the invasions in India. The other passes are Shipkila on the Tibet Himalayan Road. Nathula in Sikkim is on the way to India and Lhasa and Bomdila pass in north east.
