    (a) Himalayan mountains are young fold and loftiest mountains. (b) They have the highest peaks in the world e.g., Mount Everest (8848 metres). Average altitude is 6000 m. (c) Himalayas are most rugged in nature. They consist of three parallel ranges. Many valleys lie between these ranges. (d) This region mainly has sedimentary rocks. The northernmost range of mountains is always snow covered. (e) Himalayan region has glaciers and snow· fed rivers, e.g,. glaciers Siachen, Gangotri, rivers Ganga, Indus, etc. (a) Peninsular plateau is the oldest landmass. It has rounded hills, known as relief mountains. (b) The plateau is a tableaux with an average height of about 900-1100 metres. The highest peak is Anaimudi (2695 metres). (c) The plateau consists of two broad divisions, the central highlands and the Deccan plateau. (d) Deccan plateau is composed of crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks. These hills and mountains do not have snow. (e) The plateau region has no glaciers, rivers are rainfed, e.g., Mahanadi, Godavari, Cauveri, etc.
