Discuss the significant differences between Himalayan and Peninsular rivers.

    Answer:

Rivers originating from snow covered Himalayas are perennial rivers maintaining their flow throughout the year. These rivers cut spectacular gorges, canyons and make waterfalls in the mountains and flow on long broad plains making meanders and ox-bow lake and drain into Bay of Bengal making a delta. The rivers originating from the hills of peninsular plateau are rain-fed rivers and their volume of water is reduced after the rainfall has stopped. These rivers flow on hard undulating igneous and metamorphic rocks, making waterfalls but their middle course is very short and narrow. Most of these rivers drain into Bay of Bengal making deltas.
