It controls the structure and function of adrenal cortex especially secretion of glucocorticoids and sex corticoids. Aldosterone is a type of mineralocorticoid, secreted from adrenal cortex. It is a salt retaining hormone which is secreted in response to increased potassium levels or decreased blood flow and sodium to the kidney.
