JEE Main & Advanced Chemistry Chemical Kinetics / रासायनिक बलगतिकी Question Bank Rate law and Rate Constant

  • question_answer
For the reaction \[A+B\to C\], it is found that doubling the concentration of A increases the rate by 4 times, and doubling the concentration of B doubles the reaction rate. What is the overal order of the reaction.        [KCET 2005]

    A)                 4

    B)                 3/2

    C)                 3

    D)                 1

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[A+B\to C\] On doubling the concentration of \[A\] rate of reaction increases by four times. Rate \[\propto {{[A]}^{2}}\] However on doubling the concentration of\[B\], rate of reaction increases two times.   Rate \[\propto [B]\]                 Thus, overall order of reaction = 2 + 1= 3.
