  • question_answer
The rate constant for a second order reaction is \[8\times {{10}^{-5}}{{M}^{-1}}mi{{n}^{-1}}\]. How long will it take a 1M solution to be reduced to 0.5 M         [MH CET 2001]

    A)                 \[8\times {{10}^{-5}}\]min

    B)                 \[8.665\times {{10}^{3}}\]min

    C)                 \[4\times {{10}^{-5}}\]min

    D)                 \[1.25\times {{10}^{4}}\]min

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

               \[8\times {{10}^{-5}}=\frac{1}{t}\left[ \frac{1}{0.5}-\frac{1}{1} \right]\] ;     \[8\times {{10}^{-5}}=\frac{1}{t}[2-1]\]                                 \[t=\frac{1}{8\times {{10}^{-5}}}=0.125\times {{10}^{5}}=1.25\times {{10}^{4}}min.\]
