JEE Main & Advanced Chemistry Nitrogen Containing Compounds Question Bank Mock Test - Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen

  • question_answer
A compound with molecular mass 180 is acylated with \[C{{H}_{3}}COCl\] to get a compound with molecular mass 390 The number of amino groups present per molecule of the former compound is

    A) 6

    B) 2

    C) 5

    D) 4

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

[c] During acetylation, one H atom with atomic mass 1 amu of \[-N{{H}_{2}}\] group is replaced by an acety1 group \[C{{H}_{3}}CO\] [molecular mass=434]. Thus, \[-N{{H}_{2}}+C{{H}_{3}}COCl\to -NHCOC{{H}_{3}}+HCl\] The above equation suggests that the acylation of each \[-N{{H}_{2}}\]group increases the mass by 42[43-1]. If the molecular mass of the organic compound is 180, while that of the acylated product is 390, then the increases in the mass due to acylation is given by \[390-180=210\] Hence, the number of \[-N{{H}_{2}}\]groups \[=\frac{210}{42}=5\]
