JEE Main & Advanced Mathematics Linear Programming Question Bank Mock Test - Linear Inequalities

  • question_answer
Which values of x satisfy the following inequalities simultaneously? (i) \[-3<2x-1<19\]          (ii) \[-1\le \frac{2x+3}{5}\le 3\]

    A) \[\left[ -4,10 \right)\]

    B) \[\left( -1,\,6 \right]\]

    C)  \[\left[ -1,\,6 \right)\]

    D) \[\left( -1,\,6 \right)\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    [b]
    \[-3<2x-1<19\]              \[\Rightarrow -2<2x<20\]
                                                    \[\Rightarrow -1<x<10\]  … (i)
    \[-1\le \frac{2x+3}{5}\le 3\]                                \[\Rightarrow -5\le 2x+3\le 15\]
                                                    \[\Rightarrow -8\le 2x\le 15\]
                                                    \[\Rightarrow -4\le x\le 6\] … (ii)
    From (i) and (ii), common values of \[x\] are \[\left( -1,\,\,6 \right].\]
