Karl-Pearson?s coefficient of skewness of a distribution is 0.32. Its S.D. is 6.5 and mean 39.6. Then the median of the distribution is given by                                        [Kurukshetra CEE 1991]

    A)                 28.61

    B)             38.81

    C)                 29.13

    D)                 28.31

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                       We know that \[{{S}_{k}}=\frac{M-{{M}_{o}}}{\sigma }\],                    where M = Mean, \[{{M}_{o}}\]= Mode, s = S.D.       i.e., \[0.32=\frac{39.6-{{M}_{o}}}{6.5}\] Þ \[{{M}_{o}}=37.52\] and also know that,  \[{{M}_{o}}=\]3median ? 2mean       \[37.52=\] 3(Median) ? 2(39.6)                         Median = 38.81 (approx.).
