    Let the fraction of metal which exists as \[N{{i}^{2+}}\] ion be x. Then the fraction of metal as\[N{{i}^{3+}}=0.98-x\] \[\therefore 2x+3(0.98-x)=2\] \[\Rightarrow 2x+2.94-3x=2\Rightarrow x=0.94\]
