  • question_answer
The sum and the product of zeroes of the polynomial \[{{x}^{2}}-\left( k+6 \right)x+2\left( 2k-1 \right)\]are equal the value of k is

    A) k=3

    B) k=-3

    C) \[k=\pm \,3\]

    D) k=2

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let \[\alpha \] and \[\beta \]are the zeroes of the polynomial
    \[f\left( x \right)=4{{x}^{2}}-27x+3{{k}^{2}}\]
    \[\alpha +\beta =\frac{27}{4},\,\alpha \,.\,\beta =\frac{3{{k}^{2}}}{4}\]
As sum of zeroes would be equal to product of zeroes
    \[\alpha +\beta =\alpha \beta \]
    \[\frac{27}{4}=\frac{3{{k}^{2}}}{4}\]
    \[{{k}^{2}}=9\]
    \[k=\pm 3\]
