  • question_answer
If \[x=a\]and \[y=b\] is the solution of the equations \[x-y=2\]and\[x+y=4\], then the values of a and b are 3 and 2, respectively

    A) True

    B) False

    C) Cannot say

    D) Partially true/false

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Since, x = a and y = b is the solution of the equations x - y = 2 and x + y = 4, then these values will satisfy that equations
     \[a-b=2\]                     ... (i)
    and      a +6= 4                        … (ii)
On adding Eqs. (i) and (ii),
    we get  \[2a=6\]
     \[\therefore a=3\] and \[b\text{ }=\text{ }1\]
