The mid-point of the Line segment AB is \[P(0,4)\]. If the coordinates of B are \[(-2,3)\] then the coordinates of A are: (CBSE 2020)

    A) \[(2,5)\]

    B) \[(-2,-5)\]

    C) \[(2,9)\]

    D) \[(-2,11)\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

[a] Let the coordinates of A are \[(x,y)\].
    \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,P(0,4)=\]Mid-point of AB
    \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,P(0,4)=\left\{ \frac{x-2}{2},\frac{y+3}{2} \right\}\]
    On comparing, we get
    \[\frac{x-2}{2}=0\,\,\,\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,x=2\]
    and\[\frac{y+3}{2}=4\,\,\Rightarrow \,\,y=8-3=5.\]
    So, required point is \[(2,5)\].
