    The distance between the points \[P\left( -6,\,7 \right)\] and \[Q\left( -1,\,-5 \right)\]is

    A) -6 units

    B) 13 units

    C) 1 units

    D) 5 units

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Here,  \[{{x}_{1}}=-6,\,{{y}_{1}}=7,\,{{x}_{2}}=-1\] and \[{{y}_{2}}=-5\]
     \[\therefore\] Distance between two points,
    \[PQ=\sqrt{{{\left( {{x}_{2}}-{{x}_{1}} \right)}^{2}}+{{\left( {{y}_{2}}-{{y}_{1}} \right)}^{2}}}\]
     [by distance formula]
    \[=\sqrt{{{\left( -1+6 \right)}^{2}}+{{\left( -5-7 \right)}^{2}}}\]
                \[=\sqrt{{{\left( 5 \right)}^{2}}+{{\left( -12 \right)}^{2}}}\]
                \[=\sqrt{25+144}=\sqrt{169}=13\] units
