    Explain the development of non-conventional sources of energy in India.

    Answer:

    The industrial development and rapid urbanisation has led to increased consumption of energy in India. It has also accelerated the increasing dependency on coal, oil and natural gas leading to rapid depletion of fossil fuels. There is need for alternative sources of energy or renewable source of energy like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy and biogas. These are known as non-conventional sources of energy. India has vast potential for the development of non-conventional sources of energy.
    Solar Energy .It is the most abundant inexhaustible and universal source of energy. This energy is used for cooking, water heating space heating etc. In Bhuj district of Gujrat it is used for sterilising milk cans.
    Wind Energy.  Wind energy can be used for pumping water, irrigation and generation of electricity. In India many large wind farms are located in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala and Maharashtra.
    Tidal Energy. In India Gulf of Kachchh and Cambay are ideally suited for exploitation of tidal energy.
    Geothermal Energy. This energy is produces from hot springs at Parvati valley near Mani Karan in Himachal Pradesh and Puga valley near Ladakh.
