    Discuss the main features of Brahmaputra basin.

    Important features of river Brahmaputra are:
    (a) River Brahmaputra originates beyond the Himalayas in a region surrounding Kailash mountain in Tibet.
    (b) Most of its course lies in Tibet. Here it carries a smaller volume of water and less silt as Tibet is cold and dry area.
    (c) At Namcha Barwa it takes 'U' turn and enters India in Arunachal Pradesh through a gorge.
    In Arunachal Pradesh it is known as Dihang and is joined by tributaries-Dihang and Lohit.
    (d) It is known as Brahmaputra in Assarn. Here it carries large volume of water and huge loads of silt.
    (e) In Assam it has braided channels in its entire length and forms many riverine islands.
    (f) The river deposits huge deposits of silt on its bed causing the river bed to rise. During rainy season it causes floods in Assam and Bangladesh.
