Why did Indian National Congress change its goal from Swaraj to Purna Swaraj?

    Answer:

During Non-Cooperation Movement the Congress declared its goal as Swaraj. But the events and happenings between 1926 to 1929 made it change its goal to Purna Swaraj or complete independence. The attitude of the British government towards the Indians compelled the national leaders to demand independence.
    (i) Arrival of Simon Commission in 1928 and rejection of the Commission by Indians as it did not hold any promise of concessions. Nor did it include any Indian member to represent them.
(ii) Ruthless  treatment  of  the demonstrators.
(iii) Vague offer of Dominion Status by the Viceroy; it did not satisfy Congress leaders.
(iv) Radical leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose who dominated the Congress now became more assertive and demanded full freedom in the Congress Session of 1927.
    (v) In Lahore Session a resolution was passed on Purna Swaraj and complete independence.
(vi) Led by prominent industrialists like Purushottam Das Tandon and G.D. Birla, the industrialists also attacked colonial rule and supported Congress.
