If the slope of one of the lines given by \[a{{x}^{2}}+2hxy+b{{y}^{2}}=0\]is 5 times the other, then [Karnataka CET 2003]

    A)            \[5{{h}^{2}}=ab\]

    B)            \[5{{h}^{2}}=9ab\]

    C)            \[9{{h}^{2}}=5ab\]

    D)            \[{{h}^{2}}=ab\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

               Given \[{{m}_{2}}=5{{m}_{1}}\,\,\Rightarrow \,\,{{m}_{1}}+5{{m}_{1}}=\frac{-2h}{b}\]                    Þ \[{{m}_{1}}=\frac{-2h}{6b}\]                                                              ?..(i)                    and \[{{m}_{1}}.5{{m}_{1}}=\frac{a}{b}\,\Rightarrow \,{{m}_{1}}=\sqrt{\frac{a}{5b}}\]                 ?..(ii)                    From (i) and (ii),\[\frac{-2h}{6b}=\sqrt{\frac{a}{5b}}\]Þ \[\frac{4{{h}^{2}}}{36{{b}^{2}}}=\frac{a}{5b}\]Þ \[9ab=5{{h}^{2}}\].
