     In 1835, the British started striking Indian coins was the portrait of the British king. British India Coin (1862 - 1947) were stuck under the authority of the crown. The coins issued after 1840 bore the portrait of Queen Victoria. The first coinage under the crown was issued in 1862 and in 1877 Queen Victoria assume the title of the Empress of India.
