The highest annual rainfall variability is recorded in:

    A)  Haryana and Punjab

    B)  Punjab and Rajasthan

    C)  Rajasthan and Kachchh

    D)  Kachchh and Madhya Pradesh

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

There are large variations in the total amount of rainfall from year to year which is known as annual rainfall variability. Variability of annual rainfall is computed with the help of the following formula. Coefficient of variability                \[\text{(CV)=}\frac{\text{Standard}\,\text{Deviation}}{\text{Mean}}\text{ }\!\!\times\!\!\text{ 100}\] The coefficient of variation indicates the amount of fluctuation in rainfall recorded over a long period of time from the mean values. Obviously rainfall variability is large in areas of low rainfall. Since Rajasthan and Kachch area of Gujarat receive very little rainfall, variability of rainfall is the highest in these areas.
