In June 1962, N.Bartlett, announced the discovery of a 1:1 compound between xenon and hexafluoroplatinate,\[XePt{{F}_{6}}\], a mustard yellow solid, whose formula is \[X{{e}^{+}}{{[Pt{{F}_{6}}]}^{-}}\] Bartlett told that nobody else suggested to him to try this particular reaction ; it was his own idea. He did not start thinking about this until he had identified \[{{O}_{2}}\]\[Pt{{F}_{6}}\].
