    C) If the assertion is true but the reason is false

    D) If both the assertion and reason are false

    E) If the assertion is false but reason is true

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Blood plasma contains a protein called fibrinogen which is involved in the process of blood coagulation. Coagulation is brought about by the hydrolysis of soluble fibrinogen to insoluble fibrin which precipitates as a network of fibres. This network traps many blood cells to form blood clot which seals the wound. Plasma from which the protein fibrinogen has been removed is called serum. It is left as a straw-coloured fluid after clotting. Since serum lacks fibrinogen, therefore it can not be coagulated.
