    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Embryology is the study of development of animals from egg to adult.                    When we compare the development stages of starfish, a beetle, a fowl and a dog, all are found to be alike in the beginning through several stages up to gastrula. Later, the embryos being to diverge from each other.                    On the basis of the developmental history of the animals, Haeckel postulated his famous recapitulation theory or biogenetic law, i.e., ontogeny (embryogenic development of an organism) recapitulates phylogeny (evolutionary history of the race or phylum). This simply means that embryos in their development, repeat the evolutionary history of their ancestors in an abbreviated form. Therefore, early developmental stage of embryos are alike in different animals.
