JEE Main & Advanced Physics Magnetism Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion             :       The poles of magnet cannot be separated by breaking into two pieces. Reason                 :       The magnetic moment will be reduced to half when a magnet is broken into two equal pieces.            [SCRA 1994]

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

As we know every atom of a magnet acts as a dipole, So poles cannot be separated. When magnet is broken into two equal pieces, magnetic moment of each part will be half of the original magnet.
