JEE Main & Advanced Physics Transmission of Heat Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion             :       The S.I. unit of thermal conductivity is watt m?1 K-1. Reason                 :       Thermal conductivity is a measure of ability of the material to allow the passage of heat through it.

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                       From the definition heat flow, \[Q=\frac{KA.\,\Delta \theta \,t}{l}\]                    Thermal conductivity  \[K=\frac{\theta \times l}{A\times \Delta \theta \times t}\]                    Þ \[K=\frac{J\times m}{{{m}^{2}}\times K\times \sec }=\frac{watt}{m\times \ K}\]             If thermal conductivity of a substance is high, it will pass more heat.
