JEE Main & Advanced Physics Elasticity Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion          :           Identical springs of steel and copper are equally stretched. More work will be done on the steel spring. Reason            :           Steel is more elastic than copper.

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Work done \[=\frac{1}{2}\times \text{Stress}\times \text{Strain}=\frac{\text{1}}{\text{2}}\times Y\times {{(\text{Strain})}^{2}}\]. Since, elasticity of steel is more than copper, hence more work has to be done in order to stretch the steel.
