JEE Main & Advanced Physics Transmission of Heat Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion             :       A body that is a good radiator is also a good absorber of radiation at a given wavelength. Reason                 :       According to Kirchoff?s law the absorptivity of a body is equal to its emissivity at a given wavelength.            [AIIMS 2005]

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

According to Kirchoff?s law \[\frac{{{e}_{\lambda }}}{{{a}_{\lambda }}}={{E}_{\lambda }}\] If for a particular wave length \[{{E}_{\lambda }}=1\] Þ \[{{e}_{\lambda }}={{a}_{\lambda }}\] i.e., aborptivity of a body is equal to it?s emissivity. This statement also reveals that a good radiator is also a good absorber and vice versa.
