Assertion: Step down transformer increases the current.
Reason: Transformer obeys the law of conservation of energy.

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

    B) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If both assertion and reason are false.

    E) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

If there is no loss of energy in transformer, then instantaneous output power is equal to instantaneous input power. From this, we get \[\frac{{{e}_{s}}}{{{e}_{p}}}=\frac{{{I}_{p}}}{{{I}_{s}}}\]. So in step up transformer voltage increases by decreasing the current. Similarly, step down transformer decreases the voltage by increasing current. Therefore transformer simply transforms the voltage and current, obeying the law of conservation of energy.
