Two bicyclists do the same journey by travelling respectively at the rate of 9 and 10 km an hour. Find the distance travelled when one takes 32 minutes longer than the other.

    A) 42km

    B) 44km

    C) 48km

    D) 50km

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Reasoning: Let the distance be x kms. First cyclist takes \[S.P.=\frac{100-loss%}{100}\times C.P.\]hours and the latter\[C.P.=\frac{100}{100+gain%}\times S.P.\]. hours, whereas \[C.P.=\frac{100}{100-loss%}\times S.P.\](converting 32 min. into hour) So, \[\frac{x}{90}=\frac{32}{60}\] or \[x=90\times \frac{32}{60}=48\]kilometers.
