The scheme of National Watershed Development Project for Rain fed Areas (NWDPRA) was launched in 1990-91 in 25 States and 2 Union Territories based on twin concepts of integrated watershed management and sustainable farming systems. Its objective are conservation, development and sustainable management of natural resources, enhancement of agricultural production in a sustainable   manner, restoration of ecological balance and creation of sustained employment opportunities for the rural community.
