      What was the condition of Russia during the First World War?              

    Answer:

                      In March 1917, Soviet leaders and Duma leaders formed provisional government to run the country. Lenin and Bolshevik party thought that the time wars not ripe for socialist revolution and the Provisional government needed to be supported. (i) In the meantime Bolshevik influence grow and the Provisional government saw its power reduce. So it decided to take stern measures against the spreading discontent. (ii) Peasants and their socialist leader wanted a redistribution of land which could not be ful filled by the government. (iii) This government could not succeed to control over industry by the workers. (iv) But it resisted attempts by workers to run factories. (v) This government began arresting the leaders and the popular demonstrations staged by the Bolsheviks were repressed.
