      What is disease? How many types of diseases have you studied? Give examples.

    Answer:

          Disease refers to any condition that impairs normal functioning of the living organisms. It may be a response to environmental factors, specific infective agents or inherent defects of the organisms.     Types of disease are (i) Acute or chronic (on the basis of duration). Example of actue diseases are common cold and cough, while examples of chronic diseases are diabetes and elephantiasis.               (ii) Infectious and non-infectious (on the basis of causal agent). Examples of infectious diseases are influenza and pneumonia, while examples of non-infectious diseases are cancer and diabetes.
