Explain how sound is produced by your school bell.

    Answer:

A school bell is usually a big metallic plate with a heavy wooden hammer. When the plate is struck strongly with a hammer, the plate begins to oscillate. The molecules of the surrounding air are set into violent vibrations due to the large size of plate. These vibrations have a frequency lying in the audible range 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Thus, sound waves are produced. These vibrations cause the neighboring air molecules to vibrate. The process continues, thus the vibrations (or sound) are propagated by means of air molecules to reach the entire school area.
