  What are macronutrients and why are they called so?                                   [NCERT]

Answer:

                  Sixteen nutrients are essential for plants, out of which thirteen are supplied by the soil. Among these, six are required in large quantities. As these are required in large quantities, they are called macronutrients. They are nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulphur.
