      You are living in an area with abundant greenery and pasturage. A farmer living near your home is not satisfied with the income they get from their agricultural land. Which additional income generating activity will you suggest to him in such a scenario?          

    Answer:

                        Apiculture is the best suited activity in such a scenario that would be suggested. A apiculture is a low investment, additional income generating activity. It is the method of rearing, care and management of honeybees for obtaining honey, wax and other substances.                                                      (1) Utility of Apiculture (i) Honey is used for consumption and making     other useful products.                              (ii) Bees wax is used in various medicinal    preparations.                                         (iii) Bees also help in cross pollination of crops as honey transfers pollen grain from one flower to another, while collecting nectar.  (1)          Varieties of Bees Following varieties of bees are used in apiculture         (i) Apis cerana indica commonly known as Indian  bee.                                            (ii) Apis dorsata commonly known as rock bee.        (iii) Apis florace commonly known as little bee.        (iv) Apis mellifera This is the Italian bee that has been brought into increase yield of honey.  Advantages of Italian Bees (i) Italian bees have honey collection capacity.       (ii) They sting less.                                 (iii) They stay in a given beehive for long periods and breed very well. (iv) They are very good for commercial production. (a) The value or quality of honey is dependent upon the flowers available to the bees for nectar and pollen collection.                         (1)
