A piece of ice is placed gently on the surface of water in a glass so that when the ice floats, the water comes up to the brim of the glass. What will happen to the level of water when the ice melts? Will it over flow?

    Answer:

In accordance with the Archimedes' principle, when the ice melts, the volume of water so formed will be equal to the volume of the displaced water. So, the level of water in the glass will remain unaffected.
