Raghu and Vansh were performing  an activity related to conservation of mass in chemistry lab of their school. They mixed a solution of barium chloride and sodium sulphate. Raghu suggested that as they already knew the amount of both compounds taken by them, they need not to measure the amount of final solution. On the contrary, Vansh insisted to measure the amount of final solution, which had barium sulphate and sodium chloride. [Atomic massof ions ] Read the above passage and answer the following questions (a) Determine the molecular mass of (i) barium chloride           (ii) barium sulphate (iii) sodium sulphate       (iv) sodium chloride (b) Comment on Vansh's insistence toComplete the activity. [Value Based Question]

    Answer:

       (a) (i) Barium chloride = 137 + (35.5 x 2) = 208 u (ii) Barium sulphate = 137 + 32 +(16 x 4)          = 233u (iii) Sodium sulphate (Na2S04) =(23x2)+32+(16x4) =233u (iv) Sodium chloride (NaCI) =(23+35.5)= 58.5 u      (b) Vansh showed the scientific value to complete the activity.
